Laxmanshree: A remote village of Eastern Bengal. A meeting place of numerous itinerant saints. A holy ground basking in the sun of all religions. A child was born there in the year 1852. He was wide-awake in its vast horizon. His name was Dewan Hason Raja Chowdhury. Hason's father was Dewan Ali Raja Chowdhury, a zaminder (king). His mother was Hurmat Jahan Begum, a daughter of another zaminder. Hason passes his early days on the bank of Surma river, Sylhet. But the whole of his life was shaped in the dream world of his parents. Hason's father and step brother died when he was young. So he became zaminder at an early age. The young lord owned a vast landed property of nearly ten million acres. He controlled his opponents very strongly, and conquered the hearts of his subjects with affection and honesty. He wrote and sang, loved and suffered. He built his hut beside the palace of his parents. Humble Hason lived at his hut, and majestic he sat on his throne. Restless and relentless, all the time he was searching for truth. The truth of his inner self, the truth of mankind as a universal being. Hason Raja is a story unveiling some fabulous facts of this mystic poet. The screen play is largely based on some of his outstanding songs. Some say he was unlettered, some say he was educated in the school that could be found only in his heart. Rooted in Bengal's Mystic Tradition, he was once acclaimed by a critic no less than Rabindranath Tagore. He left this worldly life in 1922.
