Lal Darja (The Red Door): Directed by Budhadev Dasgupta, this film depicts the impact of dereliction and it was nominated for Academy Award in foreign film category. A prominent dentist, Dr. Nabin Datta (Subhendu Chatterjee) is fearful that his limbs are being crippled. His wife leaves him to live alone. The son refuses to talk to him. He searches for meaning of what is happening: He was deluged with bewildering thoughts and ideas. He even talks to an underworld thug about having his estranged wife killed. He delves into the life of his cheffeur, the happy-go-lucky Dinu (Raisul Islam Asad), who has two wives and a mistress. In the end, he returns to the magical possibilities of his childhood when he could open doors using lullaby.
