One night, crisscrossing the phone lines from opposite ends of Calcutta, two voices randomly intersect in the darkness, touching off an intriguing turn of events. A writer, living in a deteriorating but still stately mansion on one side of the city, receives an unexpected, accidental phone call from a dreadfully lonely woman who is a prisoner of circumstances in a modern, airy apartment. Days roll by and their conversations studiously avoid personal information which would give either of them away, but eventually they break their own rules and one fateful night, the world they built suddenly collapses.
